Smaller-incision and robotic surgery describe access routes across bypass, valve and septal operations; they are not one interchangeable procedure. Minimally invasive heart surgery clinics and specialist centres differ in the anatomy they treat, techniques they offer and evidence they publish. Smaller chest incisions can preserve the breastbone and reduce the initial recovery burden for selected operations. The benefit depends on the procedure: a smaller scar does not by itself mean a more durable repair or a faster return to full fitness.
13 named clinics and specialist centres
Anadolu Medical Center, Hisar Hospital Intercontinental, Medanta, German Heart Center of Charité (DHZC) and other named teams.
Cedars-Sinai’s robotic mitral programme treats degenerative prolapse and complex Barlow anatomy. Its studies follow recurrent leakage as well as whether the valve was repaired.
Tongji’s team developed transapical beating-heart myectomy, reaching the septum through the heart’s apex without cardiopulmonary bypass in the studied technique.
UChicago’s robotic service covers totally endoscopic coronary bypass, mitral surgery and AF surgery. Its valve work also includes port-access aortic surgery.

Ottawa’s MICS programme offers multivessel bypass through a small thoracotomy. Its studies examine early recovery and the need for later coronary treatment.
Potential gains include a smaller scar and less initial disruption. MIST also found better one-month physical-recovery scores after small-thoracotomy CABG in selected patients.
Limited access must still allow the complete operation. Major cardiac-surgery risks remain, and the method may be unsuitable for some anatomy or combined procedures.
How these clinics and specialist centres were selected
This list contains 13 clinics and specialist centres with a documented minimally invasive heart surgery focus in our source-linked directory. It is an editorial shortlist, not a census or an outcome ranking.
Institutional expertise and published study results are identified separately. An individual doctor may participate in several treatment pathways; a study of one procedure does not establish outcomes for another.
