At a glance
UChicago’s robotic cardiac programme is led by Husam Balkhy and specifically describes totally endoscopic beating-heart CABG. Its published experience includes bypass to several vessels and hybrid treatment combining bypass with stents.
A specific robotic operation
TECAB places bypass grafts through ports; the official profile identifies beating-heart TECAB as a principal technique.
The cohort was selected and had mean STS risk 1.7%. Early subgroup patency does not measure long-term durability across all patients or show a causal advantage over conventional CABG.
Husam Balkhy leads robotic cardiac surgery at UChicago Medicine. His named CABG technique is totally endoscopic beating-heart bypass, including selected multivessel and hybrid procedures.
Balkhy was first author of the retrospective 2013–2020 series: 56% underwent multivessel TECAB, one case converted to sternotomy and reported mortality was 0.9%. Early graft patency was 97% in the assessed hybrid-revascularization patients.
How to interpret this: Single-centre selected cohort, mean STS risk 1.7%; patency was assessed in a subgroup. These are historical programme results, not a guarantee or a current personal success rate.
