At a glance

Pitié-Salpêtrière’s adult cardiac and aortic service lists Emmanuel Lansac on its team. His research on root remodelling with external annuloplasty offers a specific valve-preserving approach to a root aneurysm with or without leakage.

Root and valve treated together

Remodelling replaces the diseased root while external annuloplasty supports the valve annulus.

Technique-specific comparative evidence

A 375-repair observational study compared 289 dedicated rings with 86 Dacron rings and found fewer late reoperations/leaks with the dedicated ring.

External annuloplasty: a comparative cohort

Lansac coauthored a study of 375 root-remodelling repairs: 289 used a dedicated expansible external ring and 86 a Dacron ring. The dedicated-ring group had fewer late reoperations and recurrent regurgitation in matched and unmatched analyses.

How to interpret this: Observational cases from 2003–2020, with median follow-up about four years despite ten-year estimates. It is not a randomized comparison with reimplantation or replacement, nor a present-day Pitié-only outcome report. Lansac disclosed a financial relationship with CORONEO.
