At a glance

Susheel Kodali is an NYU Langone interventional cardiologist specialising in transcatheter valve therapies. His trial work is relevant to severe tricuspid leakage, where symptom benefit must be weighed against bleeding and pacemaker risks.

Current NYU appointment

NYU announced his move in August 2026; earlier Columbia affiliations belong to his research history.

Patient-centred benefit

The 400-patient TRISCEND II trial favoured replacement plus medical therapy at one year, principally through symptoms and quality of life.

Material trade-offs

Severe bleeding occurred in 15.4% versus 5.3%, and new pacemakers in 17.4% versus 2.3%, with replacement versus medical therapy.

Replacement: symptoms, function and procedure risks

In the 400-patient TRISCEND II randomized trial, replacement plus medical therapy improved the one-year composite outcome, mainly through symptoms and quality of life. Severe bleeding and new pacemakers were more frequent with replacement.

How to interpret this: Device-specific, selected-patient, multicentre evidence. It does not establish a survival advantage or Kodali-specific success rate, and is not a comparison of replacement with tricuspid repair or surgery.

NYU’s HCM programme combines medical treatment, imaging and surgery. Swistel’s work addresses elongated leaflets and papillary attachments; Scheinerman is named in the hospital’s first reported robotic trans-mitral myectomy. The valve service also includes Kodali’s transcatheter expertise.
