At a glance
Tongji’s HCM contribution is transapical beating-heart septal myectomy, developed by Xiang Wei’s team. The entry point and heart support differ from conventional transaortic myectomy and Cui’s infra-axillary operations.
A named technique developer
The current department page names Wei as director and describes the team’s transapical myectomy system.
Avoiding bypass is a method feature, not proof of suitability for every mitral or papillary abnormality. The reports are not a direct randomized comparison with transaortic myectomy and do not belong to Cui’s programme.
Xiang Wei directs cardiovascular surgery at Tongji Hospital in Wuhan. His team’s myectomy system approaches the septum through the heart’s apex on a beating heart, a distinct route from transaortic or infra-axillary surgery.
The comparison guide retains the team’s larger clinical series and the earlier 61-patient study as separately attributed evidence. Patient selection, follow-up and the method are visible in those cards.
How to interpret this: These publications describe programme experience. Their results must not be attributed to Cui or compared as a risk-adjusted league table of individual surgeons.
